Proper Body Mechanics

Proper Body Mechanics
Described as the efficient use of one's body to produce motion that is safe, enery conserving and anatomically and physiologically efficient and that leads to the maintenance of a persons body balance and control.

Principles of Body Mechanics
1. Remain close to the object , stoop or squat or lift
2. Use the largest and strongest muscles of your arms, legs and trunk to lift, push , pull or carry an object
3. Widen your base of support (BOS) so that your vertical gravity line falls within your base of support
4. Use short level arms for better control and efficiency when lifting or carrying
5. Avoid twisting your body when you lift
6. Maintain your Center of Gravity(COG) close to the objects(COG); raise or lower your COG or the objects COG.
7. When possible push, pull, roll or slide objects rather than lift
8. Use devises that can help minimize the strain or exerting effort when lifting objects such as the use of strollers, carts and wagons.

Purpose of Body mechanics
1. Safety
2. balance and control
3. Conserved enerygy
